Vermont Flowers

Photos of Vermont Flowers

My friend Laura Welsh is growing in her yard a native Vermont flower called a Joe-Pye weed, and she generously sent me some pictures to share.

Aren't they lovely? As she said, they don't look like a weed to me!

Apparently the name Joe-Pye is an Anglicization of the name of a Native American who used these plants for various medicinal purposes (according to everyone's favorite, Wikipedia).  I wonder if Poultney's healer knew about those medicinal purposes?
